Course Overview

This 8-hour course (4 hours classroom + 4 hours live-fire) provides a structured approach to red dot pistol shooting, focusing on zeroing, dot tracking, presentation, and target acquisition. Students will develop confidence in using red dot sights effectively under various conditions.

Course Breakdown

Classroom (4 Hours – Dryfire & Theory)

  • Safety Briefing & Range Commands – reinforcing best practices

  • Grip & Stance – ensuring stability and consistency

  • Dot Recognition & Tracking

    • Understanding natural muzzle rise and dot behavior

    • Sight confirmation concepts (20/80, 90/10, 95/5)

    • 12 & 6 O’Clock Presentation Methods for consistent dot acquisition

  • Index & Presentation Drills – developing a repeatable sight picture

  • Trigger Manipulation Techniques – pinning, reset & prep, and slapping

  • Dryfire Exercises – reinforcing sight and trigger control

Range (4 Hours – Live Fire)

  • Zeroing & Confirmation – establishing accuracy at practical distances

  • Shooting Drills

    • 1, 2, and 3-shot drills – refining grip and dot behavior under fire

    • Reactive Shooting – adjusting to recoil and refining split times

    • Double Taps & Controlled Pairs – understanding shot cadence

  • Target Progression

    • Starting with larger aiming areas, progressing to smaller zones

    • Emphasizing visual patience and precise shot placement
